The State of Michigan Department of Education formally adopted the program and the 52.09 CIP code in 2021.
The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) offers hospitality training, certification and skill growth at every level of hospitality careers. AHLEI provides the study materials and administers the certification process for nearly 30 certification designations trademarked by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA).
The Michigan Hospitality Foundation supports HTM and the local schools offering the program. We provide tools to educators, such as monthly webinars, professional development opportunities, and networking events with the industry to develop robust advisory boards and shape their future employees.
We provide a hotel operations symposium in the fall and the opportunity to compete against their peers in the spring. Students will also have the workplace learning experiences and internships that the MHF will help coordinate.

The AHLEI Hospitality & Tourism Management curriculum, and Hospitality and Tourism Specialist (HTS) credential is the preferred method to meet Michigan’s Hospitality Pathway standards.

Hospitality and Tourism Specialist (HTS) Credential
Students earning an HTS credential have an understanding of the industry and foundational skills and knowledge in lodging, food and beverage operations, event management, attractions and tourism. The exam is proctored and requires 100 hours of work experience.
