Setting talent up for success in this industry.Each year, the Michigan Hospitality Foundation awards scholarships to help students advance their careers in hospitality. Eligible recipients include high school seniors and undergraduate students who dream of pursuing higher education to study the restaurant, food-service, and hospitality industries, as well as instructors who want to continue their education.

How to apply
Students complete a single general scholarship application. Applications are open March 1–May 1, 2024. Winners will be announced in June and scholarships will be issued in August. Checks are paid to the college enrolled and not to individuals.

Conrad & Deborah Knape Hospitality Scholarship – $1,500 per student
The Knape family scholarship is designed to help a student create a career in an industry that the late Conrad Knape loved. This investment provides an annual scholarship to a student studying restaurant management or culinary arts. Conrad Knape was a dedicated professional and leader in Michigan's hospitality industry who served on the Foundation Board of Trustees, the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association Board of Directors and was a former MRLA Chairman.

Lori LeRay Management Scholarship – $500 per student
Lori LeRay is one of the original teachers to bring ProStart to Michigan. Her landmark program went on to win more management competitions than any other school and represent Michigan at the ProStart National Invitational. The management scholarship was started by alumni of her program upon her retirement in 2017 and is open to all ProStart students pursuing hospitality management degrees.

Culinary Arts Scholarship – $500 per student
Many ProStart students struggle with the financial cost of continuing their culinary education. This scholarship is designed to help them reach their goals. Students pursuing degrees in culinary arts or baking and pastry are eligible for the scholarship.

The Trustees of the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association Educational Foundation Scholarship is awarded to the top scholarship applicant of the year. This student would have demonstrated a passion for hospitality and a desire to build their career within our industries. Students are evaluated on previous successes in the industry and in their program studies. MRLAEF trustees have created this scholarship to ensure the success of future generations.
